Dan SurmanDan Surman, BFA, BEd
Music Director (1996 - 2008)Dan Surman is a graduate of York University and an Ontario public school teacher and music specialist for the past twenty years. He is presently with the Thames Valley District School Board.
Dan has worked extensively as a tenor soloist, church organist and community choir director. For nine years, he was the musical director of the Canadian Welsh Singers, leading them on a very successful British tour in 1995.
Mr. Surman was instrumental in the founding of the Canadian Celtic Choir in March 1996. The choir's mandate was to sing and promote Celtic choral music and culture in Southwestern Ontario - and to tour across Canada and the world. Originally known as the Celtic Silurian Choristers, the choir renamed itself in September 99. In April 2007, the choir performed as part of the 90th Anniversary Vimy Remembrance Ceremonies in Ottawa. In March 2008, Dan led the choir in a successful tour of Maui, Hawaii where the choir performed three concerts.
The Canadian Celtic Choir is grateful to have benefitted from Dan's inspiration and leadership for the past twelve years, and the choir wishes him well in his future endeavours.
