Canadian Celtic Choir marks 10th anniversary with a new CD and national distribution deals

Peter Garland, Broadcaster and a ‘by’ from St. John’s calls them, “shockin’ good” and says if you could fit them in a Newfoundland kitchen, “you’d have some time”.

The Canadian Celtic Choir founded in London, Ontario to sing, to celebrate and to promote Celtic music is 10 years old. Marking this milestone are the release of We Rise Again, the choir’s third CD (following Christmas Remembered, released in 2004) and two distribution deals that will dramatically extend the reach of the 40-plus voice choir.

Landwash Distribution of St. John’s Newfoundland, the 2006 East Coast Music Awards winner in the Record Company/Distributor/Label of the Year category, will distribute Canadian Celtic Choir’s CDs through its Canada-wide network of 400 retail outlets. Landwash Distribution (www.landwashdistribution.com) specializes in Atlantic Canadian artists, such as The Barra MacNeils, John Allan Cameron, Rita MacNeil and Natalie MacMaster and views the work of The Canadian Celtic Choir as a natural fit with their focus on musical heritage.

CD Baby of Portland Oregon (www.cdbaby.com) will handle on-line distribution for both We Rise Again and Christmas Remembered. CD Baby works exclusively with independent artists and, since their founding in 1997, has distributed nearly 3,000,000 CDs.

Canadian Celtic Choir founders, Dan Surman (Choir Director) and Margo Surman (Associate Director and soprano soloist) have consistently sought out the meaningful, moving and spirit raising songs of Scotland, Ireland, Wales and the Canadian Maritimes for the choir’s repertoire and interspersed carefully chosen selections from Europe and North America. The result is a rich and evolving body of work that links technical mastery with emotive impact to bring new dimension to the character and characters of traditional Celtic music.

The choir is a frequent featured performer at Celtic festivals throughout Ontario. They opened for the Irish Descendents at the Owen Sound Celtic Festival and most recently appeared with the acclaimed tenor John McDermott at Centennial Hall in London.

You can listen to tracks from both ‘We Rise Again’ and ‘Christmas Remembered’ at www.canadian-celtic-choir.org
